Pain-free Throwing Coach

Helping softball athletes build strength, improve throwing mechanics, and stay on the field.

About The Throwing Doctor

Hi, I’m Brianna Halford, a Doctor of Physical Therapy and Certified Athletic Trainer turned performance coach.

I help softball athletes build the strength, movement skills, and confidence they need to throw better and stay on the field.

My approach goes beyond training the arm in isolation. Throwing is a full-body movement, and I believe developing a durable athlete starts from the ground up. Through strength training, movement education, and throwing analysis, I help athletes understand how their body works together to create more efficient, powerful, and sustainable throwing.

My journey started long before my clinical credentials. As a competitive travel softball player, I dreamed of playing at the collegiate level. But after an injury at 13, I never fully returned to the athlete I wanted to be. That experience stayed with me and shaped the way I think about athletic development today.

As I continued through my education and career, I became increasingly interested in the gap between simply being cleared and actually being prepared to perform.

An athlete can be cleared to throw and still lack the strength, coordination, confidence, or physical capacity needed to handle the demands of their sport.

That gap is where I work.

I combine my background in physical therapy and athletic training with performance principles to create practical, progressive resources for throwing athletes. That means looking beyond the arm and considering the entire movement, from the lower body and trunk to sequencing, mechanics, strength, and throwing demands.

Whether an athlete is looking for a structured program they can complete on their own, wants objective feedback on their throwing mechanics, or needs more individualized performance coaching, the goal is the same:

Help athletes understand their bodies, build their capacity, and become more confident throwers.

Through self-guided programs, throwing analysis, and individualized coaching, I give athletes and families practical tools to better understand throwing performance and build the physical foundation to support it.

Because being cleared to play is only the beginning. The goal is to be prepared to perform.

My Approach

There isn’t one path that every athlete needs to follow.

Some athletes are looking for a structured program they can work through independently. Others want objective feedback on their throwing mechanics. And some need more individualized guidance and accountability.

That’s why I offer different levels of support based on what the athlete actually needs:

  • Self-guided programs to build strength, durability, and throwing capacity

  • Throwing Analysis to identify opportunities to improve mechanics, movement, and energy transfer

  • Individualized performance coaching for athletes who need a more personalized approach

Regardless of the path, my goal is to give athletes practical tools they can use to better understand their bodies, improve their throwing, and build the physical capacity to handle the demands of their sport.

The goal isn't just to throw. It's to be prepared to throw well for years to come.
